First Contact
2023-03-01I promise there was no intention of having a cliche title for my first post, I just couldn’t bring myself to write “Hello World” and I’ve been watching a lot of Star Trek lately.
Even though I’ve been avoiding calling it so, this is definitely a blog of sorts. A more than slightly egotistical way of writing down what I’ve done and what I’ve been working on. It should serve a purpose though: accountability, and practice. Accountability because If I just write a diary I wouldn’t have to put any thought into whether the writing is terrible, at least now there is some kind of pressure to at least attempt to write in full sentences…
Practice is the main reason for starting down this road. I don’t count myself as someone who achieves a lot, or has a million hobbies and projects to talk about, but I used to be able to tell people about my hobbies. I used to be okay at chatting about what I wanted to do at work, or some small electronics project I thought was pretty cool. Whether I’m still okay at those things isn’t for me to decide, but over all of the COVID lockdowns I feel like I’ve got much worse at articulating myself when discussing things I enjoy.
So…here is where I’ll practice, writing about projects around the house, electronics, appliances, food, whatever. Nothing will be important, everything will be casual, and most things will probably be incorrect. I’m hoping it also has the added bonus of forcing me to not be embarrassed by what I write.
Also I will figure out a way to write that doesn’t sound so bleak…
